Spaghetti Dinner

Spaghetti Dinners are back at Pilgrim church on the first Saturday of the month. This past Saturday was a true blessing with an almost overwhelming turn out from the great support of our church family and community. This was made possible by the leadership of mmany of our great members that have worked spaghetti dinners for many years and the support of our teens from a vibrant youth group. The sight of seeing the "young and old" working so well together was a blessing in itself. Many thanks to everyone that made this such a great dinner.

Our Youth following Jesus Christ

Today was one fabulous day for our Pastor and our Youth kids. Todd and Susan are our Youth Leaders at Church and 6 of the kids decided they wanted to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. What an awesome thing to witness in the eyes of our youth. Sam which is Todd's son was invited and he brought a friend to come witness this with him as well. Todd and Pastor both dunked the kids. How neat was that to have the Pastor of your Church come to your house and perform such a wonderful and beautiful thing? Pastor reading a verse out of the Bible. All of the kids are great - please don't forget to MUTE the music at the end so that you can hear it!! ENJOY

Todd and Pastor with all the kids, what a wonderful picture ha? The kids ranged from age 13 to 17. This whole event was some what teary eyed for me (Sherri) to see such young kids want to follow Jesus Christ and have him in their lives....it was emotional for everyone I'm sure.

Then of course Todd has to show off his belly flop to the kids, gosh did it scare the death out of them! But look at him in the air

Saturday October 25 John 21

The final reading of this six week study of I Peter is appropriately Jesus restoration of Peter after Peter’s three denials of knowing the Lord. This face to face dialogue occurs shortly after the resurrection, with Jesus asking Peter three times if he loves Him, corresponding to the three denials. Shortly thereafter, Peter is filled with the Holy Spirit and preaches the great Pentecost sermon, resulting in over 3000 coming to faith in Christ (Acts 1 – 2). Peter then becomes one of the central figures of the early church along with the Apostle Paul, and the rest is history.

Dear Pilgrims,

This Sunday we welcome a number of our Joyful Noise families to our services. The children will be singing, and there will be a brief video presentation from Joyful Noise. My message is titled, "The Future is Now', with Deuteronomy 6: 1- 7 as our Scripture reading.

We have a BIG Saturday in store with our annual Pumpkin Fest, 10:00 - 1:00. All children are welcome and we anticipate a number of kids from the community. We are still in need of water and small cupcakes.

The blood mobile will be at Pilgrim this Sunday, 9:30 - 1:00.

Our monthly prayer time is this Tuesday, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m in the choir room. Prayer request sheets will be in Sunday's bulletin.

Don’t forget to join us November 1, Saturday for spaghetti dinner.

November 2, Sunday afternoon 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. is our annual church picnic. We'll have lots of free food, bingo, games, etc. Last year's outing was a major hit; everyone is welcome.

This Sunday is Mary Dorsey's last week as our nursery attendant. Mary has a new job in Cape Coral and will be relocating. We have been very blessed to have Mary with us and wish her Godspeed.

He strengthens and supports us in the valleys (see I Peter 5: 10) and puts a firm foundation of faith under our feet. Jesus encountered some very dark periods in His life, and He knows how we think and feel.

Some leaders rule with an iron hand and seek to intimidate those under their leadership. I Peter 5: 2 - 6 instructs all believers, particularly leaders, to adopt a humble, servant’s heart when leading and influencing. The Philippians passage, penned by the Apostle Paul, exalts Jesus as the model servant – leader who humbled His heart before God and ministered out of love and kindness. Do you possess a servant’s heart, or do you find yourself serving out of a desire to gain recognition and power?

Tuesday October 21 John 9: 35 - 10: 21

We pick up John’s account of Jesus healing a blind man and a subsequent discussion between the two at the conclusion of chapter 9. The Pharisees (religious leaders) are poor examples of spiritual leaders or shepherds of the people. Jesus is the good shepherd in chapter 10 who takes care of His sheep, protecting them from deceivers, and laying down His life for the sheep.

Ezekiel begins this chapter with harsh words to unfaithful, self-centered shepherds (leaders) who are concerned about self before others. They have neglected God’s people and allowed them to wander spiritually from God. As he moves forward in his writing, Ezekiel portrays God as the Good Shepherd (see I Peter 5: 4) who loves His people (even wayward folks) and reveals His care for them. All of us influence at least one other person; are we a good example of God’s grace, love and guidance? How are you leading (influencing) those God has placed in your life?

Sunday October 19 I Peter 5: 1 - 14

In this, our final reading from 1st Peter, the Apostle stresses the importance of leadership in the church, drawing on the image of Christ being the Shepherd of the sheep (the church). Three of this week’s reading draw on the metaphor of the leader as shepherd (Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday). The oft-quoted verse “Cast your cares upon Him for He cares for you” is found in today’s reading. Peter encourages the faithful to stand strong through life’s storms, and in the midst of the turbulence God will refresh and strengthen them.

Dear Pilgrims,

We conclude our six week study on the book of 1 Peter this week. The Scripture reading is 1 Peter 5: 1 - 14, and the message is titled, "God's Renewing Power." Marti will be singing for us, and the Pilgrim Gospel Choir will be singing a special number at both hours. Be sure to bring your Bible this Sunday. Why not also consider inviting a friend to worship with you? Many people are concerned about the state of affairs in our country and in their lives and are asking important questions about their lives and the meaning and purpose for which they were created. This is a grand opportunity to invite them to hear the message of God's love and support.

Hope you can stop by and enjoy pancake breakfast with us all this Saturday from 8 am – 10:30 am.

Blood pressures will be taken after each service by our Parish Nurse, DeAnn Smith.

Please remember in prayer Edith Allworden who is hospitalized, and Juliabel Strauch who is declining in health.

Our Pumpkin Fest is next Saturday, October 25, 10:00 - 1:00. We anticipate over 200 children. Additional hands are needed to help. If you would like to bring candy, place it in the bushel baskets inside the doors on Sunday.

New members will be received Sunday, October 26. An orientation class is scheduled for Tuesday, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the library.

The next men's breakfast is Thursday, October 23, 6:30 - 7:30 a.m. in the youth room. All guys are welcome.

The yard sale is scheduled for November 7th and 8th. You can drop off your items on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9am -12pm. We need volunteers to help on those days to accept and organize items. Ron Seiffer and Jane Beaudreau would appreciate any help you can give. Don’t forget……… your trash maybe someone else’s treasure!

Friday October 17 John 15

Two of the important teachings of Jesus in John 15 that coincide with I Peter 4: 7-19 are Jesus great longing that Christians would love one another and that as Christ -followers we will find ourselves at odds with the world, which may result in social ostracism. Living for Jesus may cause ridicule or, in some instances, isolation from those who do not understand why we refrain from certain behaviors. But always we rest in the strength and peace of Jesus, knowing He is always with us.

Thursday October 16 Mark 8: 27 – 9: 13

The turning point of Mark’s Gospel is found in these verses with Peter playing a major role. He is the first to confess that Jesus was the Messiah, but immediately following this confession, Peter bristled at Jesus words that He must suffer and die. Peter could not comprehend a dying Messiah prior to the cross, but clearly understood after the Resurrection. Suffering is a part of the Christian life as Peter came to experience through his own persecution for Christ.

Wednesday October 15 I Corinthians 14

The Apostle Paul addresses the issue of orderly worship and the use (or misuse) of spiritual gifts in the worship setting. Apparently, some of the Corinthians were so exuberant in using their gifts that worship services became a fiasco as many were speaking in tongues or prophesying simultaneously, leading to confusion and even chaos. Paul affirms the use of spiritual gifts (as does Peter vv. 10-11) but reminds the believers that the purpose of all gifts is to enhance worship and promote helping others.

Tuesday's Update for October 14th

Dear Pilgrims,

I received many comments on the analogy used in Sunday's message regarding enduring difficult times and have been asked to put it into print. The analogy is from Corrie Ten Boom, who survived the Nazi concentration camps. Her Dutch family was imprisoned as a result of hiding Jews. Most of Corrie's family died in the camps, including her sister who died in Corrie's arms. Reflecting on those darkest hours of her life and God's sustaining grace, she wrote that encountering hard times is like riding a train that enters a tunnel. When all becomes dark, do you jump out of the train? Of course not. You sit still and trust the engineer to get you through the tunnel. When we face dark hours in life, we trust the engineer (God) to help us through to the other side. In these present turbulent times, God is our stability, our rock, the faithful One who will see us through. So, trust Him, rely upon Him, and know that He will help you and give you the strength to face each day, one day at a time.

Please remember in prayer Edith Allworden and Terry Ebrech, both of whom are hospitalized.

The pumpkin festival is only a few weeks away and all children are invited to join us for a morning of great fun and lots of candy. Mark Saturday, October 25, 10:00 - 1:00 on your calendar. We are in need of a few more volunteers and candy.

This Thursday at 11:00 a.m. we make sandwiches for those who are in need. You are welcome to help; the event takes place in the community center.

Don’t forget to join us for breakfast on Saturday 8:00 – 10:30 a.m.

The annual thank you church picnic is scheduled for Sunday, November 2. We had a great turnout and a super time last year, so plan on attending.

We are receiving donations for the church yard sale in November. Folks will be on hand Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 9:00 - 12:00 noon in the large garage behind the community center to assist you.

All of us continue to deal with the roller coaster economy and its implications. Reports show that giving to churches is down approximately 25% compared to last year. At Pilgrim, we have are feeling the crunch also. As of the end of September, we were running a deficit of several thousand dollars in our operating income. If you can help out by going the extra mile during these challenging times, your generosity would be appreciated.

MEN: our next scheduled breakfast is October 23, Thursday, at 6:30 a.m. in the youth room located in the community center. All guys are welcome.

Tuesday October 14 I Corinthians 13

“Love covers a multitude of sins.” This rich Scripture is quoted in both church and secular contexts, with most people having no idea of its origin. What a marvelous, liberating Gospel truth Peter has penned! The love of Jesus surely has covered a multitude (a multitudinous multitude) of sins. In the life of the church, forgiveness of one another is essential. We are taught to forgive as Christ forgave, and there is no healthy Christian life without the genuine practice of forgiveness, both receiving and giving.

Monday October 13 I Corinthians 12

Beginning with today’s reading, you will note three consecutive day’s Scriptures are from Paul’s letter of I Corinthians. The themes in these chapters reinforce and elaborate the I Peter reading; keep in mind that Peter and Paul traveled together many years and were the principle architects of the Christian faith, building on the foundation of Christ. In today’s text, the Apostle Paul speaks of the Church as the Body of Christ – each Christian is a vital part of that Body and has been empowered with spiritual gifts to serve others (I Peter 4: 10-11).

Saturda October 11th Titus 3

In the Apostle Paul’s letter to his young friend, Titus, he emphasizes the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Titus 3 spells out some of the positive behaviors Jesus brings about in our lives as a result of God’s kindness and generous mercy. Both Peter and Paul speak of the change in our hearts when we meet the Lord.

Friday October 10 Romans 6

Romans 6: 7-11 and I Peter 4: 1-2 share similar thoughts regarding Christ’s suffering and the powerlessness of sin over our lives as Christians. When we follow Christ our heart’s desire and orientation are continually changing from sin to serving Jesus and caring for others. Romans 6:23 contrasts the wages of sin and the free gift of God. Ponder God’s free gift of forgiveness and eternal life – He holds you in the depth of His grace.

The familiar account of Noah, one of the earliest Bible stores many of us learned as children, is recorded in Genesis 6. Peter references Noah in vv. 20-21, drawing an interesting analogy between Noah’s family members being saved in the ark and baptism. Just as Noah’s family was separated and saved from unbelievers, so baptism “separates” or “sets apart” believers from nonbelievers. Our faith in Christ defines us as His people who represent the Lord in a hurting world.

Wednesday October 8 Isaiah 8: 11 - 9: 7

Isaiah (700 B.C.) calls the Jewish people to act courageously in the face of turbulent times. Trusting in God will see them through to a victorious end; Peter encourages the Christians likewise to trust in the Lord and lean upon Him. Isaiah 8: 6-7 prophesies of the future Messiah who will rule with peace and justice forever. Read these marvelous titles of the coming Messiah in v. 6 – take a moment to meditate upon each title and how you experience Jesus as Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

Dear Pilgrims,

Don't forget this Saturday is the bar-b-que for missions, with profits going to help fund the November mission trip to Mississippi . Tickets are on sale in the office or at the door on Saturday, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. The Bake sale will be in the Community Center during the BBQ. Baked goods can be dropped off at the Community Center between 10 am and noon.

The BIG annual Pumpkin Fest is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 10:00 - 1:00, and your help is needed. If you would like to volunteer you can sign up on Sunday. Also, we need lots of candy which you may drop off during the week or bring with you to worship.

We begin our STAIR tutoring program for children on Tuesday. 12 second grade students make their way to Pilgrim from Deep Creek after school twice a week of six weeks and are helped with reading two hours each day. Tutors consist of folks from Pilgrim and from the community.

Bob and Elaine Hanson are collecting for the Animal Welfare League. In these turbulent times even animals are affected. They need clean towels and blankets, dry kitten and puppy food (preferably Purina) but will be happy for any brand, canned cat food (for the older cats), powdered detergent, dish soap, toys (cat and dog), carriers or crates. Of course, monetary donations in any amount will be greatly appreciated. Make checks payable to the “Animal Welfare League.” Please bring items to the church by Sunday, October 19th. Please call the church if you are unable to bring in your items and arrangements will be made to pick them up.

Our fall yard sale is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, November 7 - 8. Further news regarding the sale will be in this week's bulletin.

Please remember Doc Goss who is hospitalized, and Bob Forst who is recuperating after surgery.

Tuesday October 7 I Samuel 17: 1 - 51, 21: 10 - 15

These readings from I Samuel portray David as a fearless warrior and as a frightened king – two very different personalities embodied in Israel ’s greatest leader. Psalm 34, yesterday’s reading, quoted in I Peter 3: 10 – 12, was written by David when evil came against him in the form of the Philistines. David gave in to fear and acted out of timidity. In this Psalm he repents for being fearsome and God restores David’s courage. Likewise, when we falter or fail, the Lord is willing to forgive and lift us up, encouraging and loving us.

Dear Pilgrims,

This Sunday we celebrate the Lord's love as we gather at His table for a time of communion. We continue in our series from 1 Peter with 1 Peter 3: 8 - 16 as our text. My message is titled, "Why We Do What We Do". Remember to bring your Bible this week.

Our first spaghetti dinner for the fall is this Saturday, 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. Invite your friends for an all-you-can-eat tasty meal.

We had a great first meeting for our men's breakfast. 15 guys gathered at 6:30 a.m. this past Thursday and enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Bob Forst. We also shared life together and looked at a Scripture passage. We'll be meeting again this month and will keep you posted as to the date.

Tickets are on sale for the bar-be-que sponsored by our Missions ministry to help fund the November trip to Biloxi . You may purchase tickets in the office or on Sunday. The bar-b-que is scheduled for Saturday, October 11.

If you would like to help with the 11:00 a.m. coffee hour, your assistance would be appreciated. Phone the church office at 629-2633, see Joyce Rich or Carol Aitchison.

We are looking for lots of volunteers to lend a hand at our annual fall pumpkin fest on Saturday, October 25, 10:00 - 1:00. A sign up sheet will be in Sunday's bulletin. We anticipate about 150 kids.

This passage in Matthew’s Gospel details some of Jesus sufferings Peter addresses in his writings. We observe Jesus submitting to the authorities, even when they were driven by evil. Also, note the role of Peter in Matthew 26. He is one of the three who accompanies Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (v. 36). Included in this reading is the account of Peter denying Christ three times.

Dear Pilgrims,

We have a lot happening at Pilgrim in our vital ministries to our congregation and community. I am grateful that so many of you are committed to seeing us move forward and help others in such a difficult economic climate. Daily, we have several people drop by Pilgrim requesting assistance. We do our best with each person, but realize that the needs are so numerous that we can't help everyone. Today we had a very elderly man stop to ask us for assistance, it was heartbreaking to realize that in his twilight years he is struggling. I can only imagine how he must feel and how his retirement years are very different from what he had imagined.

I want to thank you again for the tremendous response to Tony Caniglia's request for pasta. You generously donated over 350 pounds, plus other food articles, which were taken to the Salvation Army. Way to go !!!!!!

This Sunday we continue in our third week of study from 1 Peter. The Scripture reading is 1 Peter 2: 11 - 12, 21, and my message is titled, "In His Steps." We'll be receiving new members and installing the officers for Women's Fellowship. I would like to request that you bring your Bible each week as we study 1 Peter. Following along in your own Bible may be helpful for you.

We have a new class studying 1 Peter that gathers each Sunday morning, 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. in the library. Dr. David and Judi Wilson lead this discussion and invite you to attend.

Daily readings for next week were sent out Thursday; if you did not receive your copy please phone the church at 629-2633. You may pick up a copy this Sunday.

Tickets will be on sale again this Sunday for the bar-b-que dinner on Saturday, October 11 to support the missions team venturing to Biloxi , Mississippi . If you know someone who is having a hard time financially, why not consider purchasing tickets for them and give them as a gift. You would be assisting missions and being a blessing to a person, couple or family who could use a boost.

ATTENTION ALL MEN: You are invited to attend a men's breakfast at Pilgrim this Thursday, 6:30 - 7:30 a.m. in the youth room. This will be a great time of meeting and becoming better acquainted with other men in our church; I'll be speaking briefly on a topic that is relevant to our lives as men. Our cook for the morning will be the incomparable Bob Forst.

Pilgrim is investigating the possibility of opening a thrift store in Port Charlotte . If you know of anyone who owns a space for a store (at a really good price) please let us know.

The October newsletter is available on the website pilgrimonline.org. Several of our members have indicated that we don't need to send them a hard copy of the newsletter as they will be reading it online. This saves the church money as we use less paper, less printing on the copy machine, less electricity, less postage, etc. If you would like to receive the newsletter online, please email us or phone us at 629-2633. We have been able to reduce the number we send from 693 to 575 in one month.

God has always promised to be with us. He is as close to us in the valley as He is on the mountain. We may not feel His Presence, but He's faithful and true, and He loves you. May His peace and joy fill your heart this day.

September 26 Psalm 118

Psalm 118:22 is referenced by Peter in 2:7. Once again Peter interprets “the stone rejected by the builders has now become the cornerstone” as being fulfilled in Jesus’ death and resurrection. This Psalm emphasizes God’s grace, frequently repeating, “His faithful love endures forever.”

Dear Pilgrims,

Our study in 1 Peter continues and I urge you to read the daily Scriptures that tie into the themes of 1 Peter. Our small groups and study groups are going well, and you may still participate in a group even if you missed the first meeting. If you need info on the groups, phone the church office at 629-2633.

If you are an early morning gardener, this Thursday, 7:00 - 8:30 a.m., you are welcome to join other folks for a time of weeding and trimming around the church. Bring your gloves.

Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. we are assembling the October newsletter. If you would like to help, just meet in the church office.

We are having a one day, four hour yard sale this Friday, 9:00 - 1:00 behind the community center in our large garage. If you would like to donate items you may bring them to the church. Our major two day yard sale will be in November.

A group of Pilgrims will be returning to Biloxi , Mississippi in November to help with the ongoing hurricane recovery. To fund the trip a bar-b-que will be held Saturday, October 11, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale in the church office, at Friday's yard sale and on Sunday.

The themes of obedient living and love for God echo throughout the Deuteronomy passage and I Peter 1:13 – 2:10. The Deuteronomy text is part of the last speech Moses delivered to the Israelites prior to his death (1200 B.C.). Through obedience or disobedience the Israelites would write their future relationship with God; likewise, through our willingness or unwillingness to follow Christ we will receive either blessings or loving discipline from the Lord.

Dear Pilgrims,

This Sunday my message is titled, "Dealing With Life's Trials," and the Scripture reading is 1 Peter 1: 1 - 12. Study books will be on sale as we begin a six week series from 1 Peter. Small groups and study groups begin this week, however, the Sunday group begins NEXT Sunday.

Remember that our goal this Sunday is to collect 100 pounds of pasta for the salvation. Bring your spaghetti, macaroni, etc. to help those in need.

Our monthly prayer time is Tuesday, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the choir room. Prayer request forms will be in Sunday's bulletin.

I Peter Study Update

We launch our six-week study on I Peter this Sunday, with I Peter 1:1-12 as our Scripture reading. Study books are available for $6.50 and will be available after Sunday’s services or in the church office. If you have a book, read the first chapter before Sunday if time permits.

You will notice in the study guide that there are daily suggested readings (p. 7) that reinforce the themes of the week’s particular reading from I Peter. When glancing at the list of readings you may wonder how they relate to I Peter as they are taken from various books throughout the Bible.

Below I have listed these suggested readings by day, date and Scripture passage and a paragraph explaining the relationship between each reading and I Peter 1:1-12. I hope you find these helpful.

Sunday September 14 I Peter 1:1-12

This Scripture begins our six week study in I Peter and will be the Text for Sunday’s message. Peter writes not to a specific church in a city, but to a number of churches in a region located north of the eastern Mediterranean shore known as Asia Minor . He reassures the Christians of God’s Presence and the promise of eternal life in the face of their trials. Peter also reminds the believers what the Old Testament prophets wrote of, and anticipated, the coming Messiah – Jesus. This Good News of Jesus is currently being proclaimed throughout the first century world, and angels are on the edge of their seats watching the spread of Christianity.

Monday September 15 James I

The first chapter of James is similar to I Peter 1:1-12 in that it addresses the trials/tribulations of Christians. The theme of overcoming and enduring hardships is common throughout Scripture, along with eternal rewards for those who do not surrender their faith in the midst of difficulties.

Tuesday September 16 Hebrews II

I Peter 1:7-9 speaks of trials that test our faith, a faith that is more precious to God than gold. Hebrews II has been referred to as the faith “Hall of Fame” as the writer lists several Old Testament examples of faithfulness, and the rough times many of these “greats” faced. This chapter inspires us through the lives of others to “hang in there” during hardships.

Wednesday September 17 Isaiah 53

In I Peter 1:10-11, Peter reminds us that the salvation we experience as a result of Christ’s suffering, was written of in the Old Testament long before the birth of Jesus. These Old Testament prophets foresaw the future Messiah, and Isaiah in particular prophesied the coming of the Suffering Servant (Jesus) 700 years prior to Jesus entrance into the world. I Peter 1:10-11 addresses Jesus suffering that Isaiah wrote of seven centuries prior to Christ coming to earth. Isaiah 53 is a masterpiece of prophecy regarding Jesus.

Thursday September 18 Luke 2

Peter tells us in 1 Peter 1:12 that while the Old Testament prophets foresaw the coming of Jesus, they realized His appearance would not happen in their lifetime. But, finally, Jesus was born, died, and rose from the dead, and the Good News about Jesus is now being preached to all people. In Luke’s account of Jesus’ birth, the angel announces to the shepherds the Good News (Luke 2:10) of Jesus birth that will bring great joy to everyone. The same Greek word for “Good News” is used in I Peter 1:1-12 and Luke 2:10. (For Greek fans the root word is evangelion which is translated “good news” or “gospel” and is also used in Mark 1:1).

Friday September 19 Romans 8

If you had only one chapter from all of Paul’s letters at your disposal, Romans 8 would be THE passage to possess as it tells us of Christ’s overwhelming love and faithfulness to us every moment (nothing can ever separate us from Christ’s love v. 39). Paul writes of life’s current tests, yet reminds us that the coming hope of heaven and its infinite beauty help us put today’s problems in a larger, eternal context. This truth also runs throughout the text of I Peter 1:1-12. Savor the words of Romans 8, meditate and reflect on them throughout the day.

Saturday September 20 Revelation 21

The Apostle John, in Revelation 21, paints a picture of the future splendor and glory of heaven that is promised to all Christians. One day our trials and problems will be history, and we shall live in the Presence of Christ forever. I Peter 1:4 describes heaven and what awaits us there as a “priceless inheritance”. Read about this priceless inheritance in Revelation 21.

Tuesday's Update for September 9th

Dear Pilgrims,

The Anger Management class with Dr. Chris Hensley Robbins begins this Thursday, 7:00 p.m. and runs for eight weeks. The class will meet in the library; tuition is $ 50 per person or $ 75 per couple. Scholarships are available as we want everyone to attend who so desires. Dr. Robbins holds Anger Management classes throughout the county and is a well know Christian counselor. I highly recommend this class.

AWANA had a tremendous kick off last Wednesday with lots of kids and parents. AWANA meets every Wednesday, 5:15 - 7:00 p.m. The kids begin in the sanctuary with singing and opening activities. If you have any questions, please call Dawn at the church office at 629-2633.

The Father/Daughter Banquet is September 20. Tickets are on sale at the office or after church this Sunday.

Our STAIR tutoring program is in need of two more tutors and one more driver. Please see Dionne Jones or phone the church office.

Don't forget our big pasta collection for the Salvation Army food pantry this Sunday. Tony Caniglia has challenged us to bring 100 pounds !!!!!!!

The six week study on 1 Peter begins this Sunday as I bring the first message from this wonderful New Testament book. Personal study guides are available in the office or after services on Sunday. The cost is $6.50. We sold so many guides last week we have had to order more. I want everyone to have a guide, even if you cannot afford one. Please be sure to pick one up this week, and read the first chapter before Sunday if you have time. Study groups will begin meeting next week and will discuss the portion of Scripture that was the basis of the Sunday morning message.

Anger Management Class
