Frida's Update September 5, 2008

Dear Pilgrims,

What a wonderful Wednesday evening we experienced this week at Pilgrim. AWANA resumed with lots of kids and parents filling the community center. The 11:00 a.m. choir resumed practice, and with the 9:00 a.m. praise team moving their practice to Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., an hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. practice time at 7:00 p.m., the two groups were able to share time together at a pot luck dinner. Although we have two services on Sunday, we are one church, united in the love of Christ.

This Sunday we finish our series of messages from the Book of Philippians. My message for this week is, "What's the Deal with Saints?” with Philippians 1:1, 4: 21 - 23 as the Scripture reading. We'll ask what Paul meant when he referred to the Philippians as saints, and take an honest look at the lives of saints in both the Bible and in church history. You might be surprised to learn how some of these men and women behaved and wonder how in the world they ever became know as saints (it will give you hope for your life when you look at your own imperfections !)

We are in need of about 4 more tutors for the STAIR reading program, which begins in October and runs for six weeks. If you are interested, please see Dionne Jones or phone the church office at 629-2633.

The father/daughter banquet and dance is Saturday, September 20. Tickets are on sale this Sunday or in the church office.

Please remember Clyde Prier in prayer as Hospice is helping with his care. Judy and family appreciate your prayers and thoughts.

A group is planning on returning to Biloxi , Mississippi November 9 through November 15 to continue helping to rebuild this area destroyed by Katrina. Approximately 10 people are planning on going, and there is still room for more. If you are interested in participating, please phone Phil Shaw at 661-1769.

A week from this Sunday I begin a six week series from the Book of 1 Peter. Small groups and study groups will be meeting each week following the message to study the Scripture that was the basis of the message. We have four open groups if you would like to participate. The groups are as follows:

Sunday 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. in the library led by Dr. David and Judi Wilson.

Wednesday 7:05 - 8:30 p.m. in the library which I'll be leading.

Thursday 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. in the library led by Dionne Jones.

Thursday 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Jim and Susan Wright.

You may sign up for one of these groups on Sunday. Sign up is NOT mandatory for attendance.

We have study books available for everyone to purchase, regardless if you are in a group. The books sell for $ 6.50 and will be on sale this Sunday and throughout the week at church. Daily Bible readings are listed in the study book. This is a very helpful book that can be read each week in preparation for the coming Sunday's message. Each section can be read in about 10 minutes and has great information that will help you understand the particular Text we are studying for the week and includes study questions. I realize some of our members are having difficult financial times, and you are welcome to a book even if you cannot afford one at this time. I want EVERYONE to have a study guide who desires to have one.

Have a great day. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday as we conclude our study on Philippians.

In His Grace,

Pastor Matthew Neumann
